The
Project

National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP) is a government initiative taken back in 2015 to eradicate malaria from Bangladesh. This program is conducted to supply test kits, medicine, and other preventive products to malaria-infected areas.

To successfully run the program the organization required a well-developed system to digitally manage their inventory, supply, and distributions, upload daily areawise data by the field workers, obtain the current condition of malaria infection and assess the condition to make plans for the foreseeable future. The system also needed to be designed in such a way that a large number of people of different backgrounds could access it from remote locations.

Dcastalia as a leading software company in Bangladesh had the honor to tag with the Program to develop their Logistic & Management Information System (LMIS) along with the Management & Information System(MIS). This ensured that the program runs smoothly all across the country with proper management of the logistics and information gathered.

scope of
work

  • System Architecture Design
  • DBMS Design
  • Website Development
  • System Development

In assisting Bangladesh to become a malaria-free country, we planned the project in a way that will aid our client to reach the ultimate goal. It was essential to build two information systems, namely; Logistics Management Information System (LMIS) and Management Information System (MIS) to track the buying & distribution of medical supplies, and patient numbers. LMIS and MIS had to be designed separately but it was essential to ensure central accessibility for both the systems, from a single connected source, for efficient management.

Technologies

This system has to handle a large amount of data and users, making it extremely important for us to choose the technologies very carefully. We used modern and the latest suitable technologies to ensure performance, security, and usability making sure to optimize them for optimal performance.

Core
Features

Cross-Functional
Micro-Systems

Dcastalia designed 2 separate and powerful microsystems: Logistic Management and Information System (LMIS) and Management and Information System (MIS), to manage the supply chain and facilitate the program.

Each microsystem has its own unique architecture carefully designed to help portray and manage complex sets of data. Users can manage inventory, track distributions and returns, and assess and monitor the infection rate by generating various reports. Powerful DBMS with optimized queries are set to handle complex distribution and return logic.

Access Control System For
Multiple User Type

The multiple microsystems are designed to be accessible for different user types with various permission parameters. We fully acknowledged the sensitivity of the project in terms of maintaining national data and incorporated the strictest and most advanced security measures into the system.

We also integrated powerful security tools and techniques to ensure the security of the system to protect financial data and valuable inventory item distribution. Validation checking logic and a strong authentication process are other key features that are implemented for each user type to give them exclusive access to the system

Smart Report Generation

The effective running of the program is dependent on the reports that are generated from the system. Therefore, the reports are created based on the data inputs made into the system, which are accurate and can be updated as and when required.

High-level sorting techniques have been used to manipulate the data as required and generate reports by various parameters like time, location, date, etc. Complex filtering techniques are also implemented to filter a wide range of data.

Powerful DBMS
For Diverse Information

The system requires the storage of a vast amount of data, as the programs operate all over the country at different levels. This ranges from user data, patient data, supply data, etc.

The system and microsystem consist of a robust database that is designed to accommodate this vast amount of diversified data. The system has been designed to ensure smooth functionality by efficiently containing and organizing data and serving a large number of users at the same time without any technical glitches.

Challenges &
Our Approach

Ensuring Accessibility

The system is designed for both technical and non-technical people to access the platform from remote places around the country. It was a challenge to ensure smooth and easy access to the system even with limited internet connectivity. Every day a large number of data is being uploaded to the system by a number of field workers from different locations.

Our Approach

While designing the system we kept in mind the different types of users from different backgrounds and ensured a user-centric approach. We also used different optimization techniques to optimize the codebase to reduce server requests for optimal speed and performance.

Complex Inventory Management Logic

The organization has to deal with a large number of medical supplies on a regular basis, starting from managing the inventory to tracking the distribution. It was essential to design the system to make it capable of handling a large inventory with a return logic algorithm.

Our Approach

While designing we critically mapped out the different possible user profiles in the system and ensured a user-centric approach. We implemented the best techniques for system optimization to avoid server request overload and establish optimal speed and functionality.

User Authentication for Separate Microsystem

LMIS and MIS are two different systems but are linked together and share the users’ data sets. Therefore, access to the system required authentication from a single source. It was a challenge to ensure the user authentication and validation process to maintain the security of national data.

Our Approach

To resolve the issue, we linked the large volume of user data sets with a strict authentication process, and ensured steps for checking user validity. The data sets were connected with the help of cookie authentication and merged by an authentication gateway.

Key Numbers

Malaria is a life threatening health problem in Bangladesh affecting over 8% of the population in the country directly. NMEP aims to eradicate malaria from the country and aid those who have been infected. Dcastalia was engaged by NMEP to assist them in achieving this objective by developing an information management system through which all resources could be managed and distributed most efficiently.
